Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Position Summary:   Prepare building and fire code consulting and analysis reports, engineering design of fire protection and life safety systems, perform engineering analyses specific to fire protection, life safety, and risk. The candidate must work closely as part of a team, be capable of directing other staff in the preparation of designs or project execution, and have the ability to interface with clients.  Project management and business development skills are also required for this position.  Design and specify fire suppression systems including wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, fire pumps, and storage tanks on a wide variety of project types. Design of special systems such as foam, spray, mist, clean agent, wet/dry chemical, and carbon dioxide on a wide variety of projects.  Ability to analyze, review, and present on smoke control modeling, fire modeling, acoustic modeling, and timed egress analyses performed by staff is preferred.  Direct the preparation of comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke evacuation, and life safety. Apply sound fire protection engineering principles to assist in troubleshooting and solving client related problems. Assist field personnel in resolving design related installation issues. Knowledge and application of performance based design, hazard analysis, and CFD modeling is a plus. Position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving challenging problems requiring adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures or criteria. 

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in fire protection engineering or other engineering discipline

  • Minimum 8 years professional experience in the fire protection and life safety consulting field

  • Detailed knowledge of building/fire codes and technical standards related to fire protection and life safety

  • Registered P.E. in the State of Texas or ability to gain licensure within 6 months of hire

  • Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of fire/life safety industry software preferred

  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently, when necessary
