Camp Mabry - Bldg. 83
Project Type:
Texas Military Department Building Renovation
Location:
Austin, Texas
FPCG served as the Fire Protection Engineer of Record (FPE DOR) for the renovation of Building 83 at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas—a 10,708-square-foot, two-story Texas National Guard billeting facility owned by the Texas Military Department. Originally constructed in 1983, the building contains 48 guest rooms, each approximately 200 square feet, arranged in mirrored pairs with shared plumbing walls and exterior corridors. The facility is composed of two enclosed wings separated by a central open-air breezeway, with steel-frame construction, brick veneer, and concrete balconies along the second level.
As part of this renovation, FPCG supported the project’s compliance with anticipated Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS/ADA) and life safety code requirements, including the design of a new fire sprinkler system. Our fire protection team played a critical role in addressing code-triggered upgrades while integrating system design within the building’s compact layout and existing infrastructure. With guest rooms featuring private restrooms and a consistent mechanical setup—including in-room fan coil units and first-floor mechanical/electrical rooms—our team provided code-compliant solutions tailored to the building’s form and function. This project supports the modernization of state military housing facilities while meeting current accessibility and fire protection standards.
