UT Permian Basin - Mesa Building

UT Permian Basin - Mesa Building

Project Type:

Large-scale higher education renovation project

Location:

Odessa, Texas

FPCG served as the Fire Protection Engineer of Record (FPE DOR) for the comprehensive renovation of the University of Texas Permian Basin’s four-story, 317,000-square-foot Mesa Building in Odessa, Texas. As part of the project team, FPCG provided full engineering drawings and specifications for repairs and upgrades to the building’s fire sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm, and clean agent systems. Our team worked to ensure that all life safety systems met current codes and seamlessly integrated with the building’s updated infrastructure.

The Mesa Building is a central hub for UTPB, housing the university’s primary classrooms, administrative offices, and support services, as well as the College of Business, College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Nursing Simulation Center. The renovation is designed to support the university’s academic mission through a wide range of interior and exterior upgrades. These include the replacement of ceilings, flooring, finishes, HVAC components, lighting, electrical distribution, emergency power, mechanical and plumbing systems, and low-voltage systems.

Within the existing footprint, the project also involves approximately 80,000 square feet of selective demolition and reconfiguration of classrooms, offices, and ancillary spaces to improve building efficiency, reliability, and user experience. FPCG’s role in the renovation focused on delivering safe, code-compliant fire protection systems that align with the university’s long-term operational goals.
